‘Lazy Bird’ Jazz Standards. This John Coltrane‘s composition is an advanced must-know jazz standard. Coltrane recorded Lazy Bird on his 1958 Blue Train album.
It has a typical AABA 32-bar form except for the head out which has the last A section shorten by 2 bars to go to an 11-bar coda section.
In this lesson, we go over the harmonic and melodic analysis, study a new contiguous II V and how to voice-lead these to create musical melodies, the bass line, how to practice the chord changes, I also share some melodic ideas to practice.
In a second video we go over Coltrane’s solo to understand his vocabulary and steal his ideas!
