Rhythmic Considerations In Improvisation

What is inside this course? - Rhythimc considerations

The Rhythmic considerations course  is about developing a strong rhythmic feel and creativity is critical for us improvisers. You can create simple melodies that will sound great with very few notes if the rhythm is there. Listen to the masters and notice how they can play 2 or 3 notes and swing their butt off! Some of the masters in that category are Sonny Rollins, Ahmad Jamal, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brad Mehldau. They can play one single note for a few bars but with so much rhythmic creativity and so strong, it’s really swinging and beautiful. In the transcription of Lee Morgan on the blues Bongo Bop we see how he plays one single note, repeats, displaces and develops it over one chorus.

In this class you will learn to develop a strong rhythmic ability through exercises on different typical jazz forms.

We start with the common Blues form and using a simple rhythm material, just half notes with a series of rhythmic displacement exercises.

We will explore the rhythmic aspect with more complex rhythms and forms, polyrhythms, rubato playing and more.

At the end of this program, you will have a solid and vast knowledge of rhythm that will allow you to keep on developing your creativity.
