It is considered one of Ellington’s most popular compositions and a classic jazz standard. The song is characterized by its slow, contemplative melody and its evocative and emotional lyrics.
In the first lesson we study the melodic architecture and harmonic analysis.
In lesson 2, we study the versions by Art Tatum and Dexter Gordon while we study the versions by Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington with John Coltrane, and Michel Petrucciani in the third lesson.
In lesson 4 we practice to play the melody and the bass line at the same time, embellish the melody, playing rubato and in time, and finally the chords scales.
