Michel Petrucciani

Check out this really nice documentary about pianist Michel Petrucciani (1962-1999).

Born in the south west of France, he became one of the greatest pianists of his generation, performing with jazz giants, despite his genetic disease that causes brittle bones and short stature. He had all the reasons in the world to complain how life is tough, being constantly in pain and regularly breaking bones, but he was such a joyful person! To master a grand piano is no easy task, imagine the gigantic monster this was for his stature.

I think this is really what art is about, to overcome whatever challenge life throws at you, to test you and see if you have what it takes. Michael Petrucciani’s sound and touch were recognizable instantly and he made it to the top, staying humble and simple.
