Night And Day

Night and Day is a popular song by Cole Porter that was written for the 1932 musical Gay Divorce. It is perhaps Porter’s most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by dozens of musicians. — making it an essential piece to learn jazz standards.

This song has a very unusual 48-bar form that can be analyzed in two ways:

‱ AAB form, each section being 16 bars

‱ ABABCB form, each section being 8 bars

The harmonic progression is also unusual for a popular song and differs quite a bit depending on the versions.
